About Chickenpox

Chickenpox Symptoms in Children
Chickenpox in children usually develops 1 to 3 weeks after exposure to the virus. The infection often begins with general flu-like symptoms before the signature rash appears.

Early Signs of Chickenpox:
Tiredness or low energy
Fever or high temperature
Loss of appetite
Muscle aches or general discomfort

Chickenpox Rash and Blister Stages
The chickenpox rash is the most recognizable symptom, progressing through several key stages:

Spots – Small, red, itchy spots begin to appear on the skin, often starting on the face, chest, or back.
Blisters – These spots turn into fluid-filled blisters that can itch intensely and may burst.
Scabbing and Crusting – After a couple of days, the blisters dry out and form scabs. This healing process may take up to two weeks, as new spots can continue appearing for several days.
It’s common for children to have spots at different stages—some fresh, some crusting—at the same time.

Is Chickenpox Contagious?
Yes. Chickenpox is contagious from 2 days before the rash appears until all blisters have scabbed over and dried completely.
